Behavioural safety experts SeaChange Ltd. use empirical research findings to uncover the flaws with traditional behaviour-based programs and actually deliver sustainable and ground-breaking results through leading real & practical change on the factory floor
Exploratory research utilising focus groups and semi-structured interviews from a large FMCG sample size across Europe yielded 14 attitudinal themes that were directly connected to unsafe behaviours in the workplace. The 14 prevailing attitudes pointed towards a neglect of the underlying needs of trust and value experienced by employees within the organisation. The neglect of value component (7 attitudes) suggests clear indications of the lack of value placed on both employees as individuals and on employee safety by management. The neglect of trust component (7 attitudes) implies the low degree to which employees believe in the safety message and trust management’s commitment to safety within the organisation. These dimensions and key factors led to the development of the SeaChange Culture Footprint™
The SeaChange Culture Footprint™ is a tool that accurately maps where organisations score in relation to the 14 factors, and more importantly, highlights the gaps that need attention and road-maps the priorities to make real and sustainable change in safety culture.
THE FMCG CASE-STUDY
85-95% of accidents are people based. As organisations grow systems, equipment and resources get more advanced, we see a reduction in our losses, variations and accidents, but this if often short-lived. Focusing on so called ‘behavioural interventions’ may see a momentary improvement, but the real and lasting effects can be seen when we focus on the latent Attitudes leading to unsafe behaviours.
Through a combination of questionnaires and workshops with every level of the organisation, SeaChange accurately position the culture present for your organisation at Top, Middle and Bottom Management.
- Real engagement with your workforce
- Accurate positioning of current culture
- Provides a baseline to measure effectiveness of interventions
- Pinpoints where the attention is needed
- The Culture Footprint™ offers solutions targeted at improving culture
- Ensures your organisation is not wasting time, resources and money in the wrong areas
“‘The SeaChange Culture Footprint accurately positioned the attitudinal and behavioural strengths and weaknesses of our organisation at every layer, and provided a key starting point for sustainable culture change’’ -Donal Dennehy, Site Director, Danone Nutricia
