Bulmers Chooses SeaChange
As Manufacturing Director of Bulmers a serious accident to one of my personnel led me to carry out a root and branch study of the company’s safety systems with a view to a step change improvement being needed in safety performance.
The study showed that whilst the company was covered from a legal standpoint there was a real disconnect between the safety policy and risk assessments on the managers shelves and what was actually happening in practice in the manufacturing areas.
After much research on how best to fill this deficit I engaged SeaChange to install their unique safety system. The system allows full engagement of the employees to look at risks from two simple view points; extrinsic - those that can be engineered out, and intrinsic - those risks that are inherent in the process and have to be minimised through effective controls.
The system is also very visual and simple to monitor allowing structured training of all operators and auditing of the safety controls. The system also fits well with Lean and World Class manufacturing.
The result has been nothing short of spectacular, engaging our people in a process that has led not only in a step change in safety performance but also in morale and motivation of our employee base.

Danone H&S Award
We introduced the SeaChange system to the Macroom Danone plant in August 2009. The production teams immediately took to the concept. It gave them a sense of ownership and responsibility for Health & Safety in their own areas. The great thing for me about SeaChange is that it is very much a living, active system. The impact of introducing SeaChange was such that the Macroom plant won the Danone Award for the most improved plant for Health & Safety in the Baby Division for 2009.
